One of Ireland’s foremost Portrait Photographers, O’Doule (Leo Doyle) has been creating stunning portraits & character studies of locals, and well known International faces for many years. In 1980 he photographed Pope John Paul II on his visit to Ireland, for the Irish Catholic Hierarchy. In recent years he had the unique distinction of creating a portrait of the late Dr. Peter Kavanagh (Poet Patrick Kavanagh’s brother) in the USA.
O’Doule’s Portraits were once described by the late Terry O Sullivan in Ireland’s Evening Press as “possessing the stark reality of the present - fused with a nostalgic atmosphere of the past”, describing the O’Doule ‘Portraits on Canvas’ exhibition in the Vale View Art Gallery. O’Doule went on to exhibit in many cities around the world receiving numerous awards. After a lengthy period in NYC, where his widely published Photo Essays on Native American and Old Order Amish cultures received much acclaim, he returned to Ireland in 2004.Working from his base in Gorey, O’Doule creates his unique style of Portraits, both on location & in the Studio environment, using a variety of lighting arrangements, from natural daylight, to his own custom built electronic studio lights.
