A while back, Izabelle arrived at the O'Doule Studios in Gorey, with her family. It was for her First Holy Communion Portrait & a family wall portrait was on the agenda too. However, as O'Doule Fine Art Portraiture specialises in life's achievements, we shall concentrate on Izabelle's portrait, as it's her first real milestone and the first important achievement in her life.
When Izabelle & her family arrived, they settled in the reception/gallery area of the studios and we all sat and just chatted. We needed to get to know each other a little and I needed everybody to be comfortable & relaxed, so they could enjoy the experience. As we chatted, Izabelle was taking it all in, quietly observing me, her surroundings, & the gallery of portraits etc. I observed Izabelle as a reserved, quiet, confident child who is also intelligent with a most likeable disposition. Once she felt comfortable about the portrait shoot her wonderful low-key personality came through.
It was time for all of us to go into the Studio for the portrait shoot. Izabelle was up first, and her family were close by, but back a little so it was all about her! It was Izabelle, me & the camera - oh, and her First Holy Communion dress, the most exciting part of her day (her words) and she picked it out herself. We chatted, she chatted, I clicked, the lights flashed, Izabelle smiled. She was quite relaxed as we continued to chat, she reacted to my questions & comments. Izabelle laughed a lot, I clicked a lot, and I made lots of portraits. It was easy, a beautiful subject, very relaxed & enjoying every minute of her new experience.
I had more than enough shots for her wall portrait. We choose full length as it showed the complete dress. All of the images were truly Izabelle - and therefore perfect. The family shots were also beautiful, and they enjoyed the shoot just a much as Izabelle and more than they expected to!
Hey - what just happened here? Well, Izabelle thoroughly enjoyed her first portrait shoot, in which she contributed to the final choice of her portrait. Her parents watched with pride as their daughter, not just 'reached the use of reason' but confidently handled her own photo shoot, displaying glimpses of an emerging maturity that will determine the years ahead. I got to know a little more about Izabelle, and both she and her family were delighted with their unique “one of a kind” portrait of her, that she will fondly show her children's children in the future.
